Psalm 100 is an invitation to worship. The psalmist tells us who God is—he is the Lord, the Father, Son, and Spirit, revealed in Jesus Christ and in the Scriptures. The psalmist also tells us what God has done—he has saved us, entered into a covenant with us, and made us a people for himself. In response to who God is and what he has done, the psalmist invites us, and the whole earth, to worship with joy and thanksgiving.

In Psalm 1, we saw the picture of an alive and life-giving Christian in the image of a fruit-bearing tree planted by streams of water. In Psalm 78, we see that healthy Christians grow in the context of a healthy congregation. Healthy congregations gather in Christ with his Spirit and Word and rehearse the history of God’s grace. The congregation reminds itself of the faithfulness of God in Christ, and of the calling to follow him in faith. It passes these things on to the generations to come, even the ones yet to be born. By God’s grace, Grace Community Church will be such a congregation. Will you follow Christ with us, and pray and serve with us toward this end?

God has put before our eyes the vision of what he intends to make of us by his grace. In Psalm 1, the image of a healthy and flourishing tree is designed to stir our imagination for the kind of Christian we are becoming. By God’s grace in Christ and through the graces of his Word, we are spiritually alive, showing evidence of that life and giving life to others. This vision from God forms the mission of our lives and determines the commitments we make. Today, let’s see, determine, and decide for God’s vision of us.

This psalmist is looking at the sad state of Israel’s relationship with God and praying that he would restore them to himself. Today we consider our own need for spiritual renewal and we take up this psalm as a guide for our prayers to be restored. We rejoice that the prayer for a Man to deliver and restore the people to God has been answered in the coming of Jesus Christ. Christ is the shining face of God, and in his face we see God. May the Lord restore us to himself through Christ.
