It is hard to imagine how Paul could say more about how utterly powerless human achievements are for justification before God, and how effectual the cross of Jesus Christ is to make us right with God. He says it all here. Human merit counts for nothing before God. The cross of Christ is the only sufficient merit for our salvation. Here at the end of Galatians, if we are still clinging to our goodness, this passage will strip us bare. And if we are aware that we need a Savior, this passage offers us Christ who died for our sins to give us everything.

Jason Miller preaches from Galations 3:26-4:11. Paul continues to defend the gospel of justification by faith in Christ alone by listing the many benefits that believers receive in Jesus. Faith in Christ unites us with His death and resurrection, and with all believers despite our external differences. God sent Jesus at just the right time to accomplish the redemption and adoption of His people. God sends his Holy Spirit into our hearts to confirm our relationship to the Father. With all these blessings available to us, why would we turn back to legalistic religious performance to win God’s favor?

Bill Maynard preaches from Galatians 3:1-14. Paul reproves the Galatian Christians for trusting in human works to try and perfect their salvation. He reveals the folly of this “works righteousness” by drawing on their own experience of being saved by grace through faith and then by unpacking Old Testament teachings about Abraham and the Law itself. He emphasizes the centrality of the Cross as God’s plan and means for salvation.
