Peace with God - Romans 5:1-2 - July 19, 2020
Monday Jul 20, 2020
Monday Jul 20, 2020
How do we describe the peace that comes from being justified by God? It is peace with God. This peace was secured for us by the death of Christ. We have access into a new status of favor with God because we have peace with him. This peace produces the hope of future glory with God.
How do we enjoy peace with God? We assure our hearts before God. We experience the sense of peace in our present lives because we have real peace in the presence of God. As far as it depends on us, we live in peace with all people, giving witness to them that God has made peace through Christ our Lord.

We have already established that, like Abraham, we are put in right relationship with God by faith. Now we ask, faith in what? This passage shows us that faith is not a general sense of wellbeing. Faith is not an optimistic view of the future based on hope in the goodness of people. Faith, the kind that puts us right with God, has a specific object of trust. Faith is believing and trusting God who delivered up his Son on the cross for our sins, and raised him from the dead for our salvation. This kind of faith is personal and life-transforming. The righteous shall live by faith.

Why Abraham? – Romans 4 – June 28, 2020
Sunday Jun 28, 2020
Sunday Jun 28, 2020
It may appear that Abraham is a mere example of someone who once trusted God and somehow illustrates how we are to trust God. But a closer look reveals that Abraham is more than an example. Through Abraham, God moves his plan of salvation toward Christ, reveals the gospel of justification by grace and faith, raises up a people from Jews and Gentiles for his glory, and gives his church a mission on earth that extends to all the nations. Christians are connected to Abraham, for he is the father of all who believe.

The Heart of the Gospel and Why It Matters – Romans 3:21-31 – June 21, 2020
Monday Jun 22, 2020
Monday Jun 22, 2020
The heart of the gospel is that God declares us right with himself, based on the righteous work of Christ on the cross, as a gift of grace to be received by faith. The gospel transforms every relationship we have; with God, with ourselves, and with others. This is why we say with the apostle Paul, “We are not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.”

Who Needs The Gospel, and Why? - Romans 3:9-20 - June 14, 2020
Monday Jun 15, 2020
Monday Jun 15, 2020
The gospel is good news, but it is only received by those who see their need. We all need the gospel because we all are sinners. If we deny our sinfulness, or downplay just how sinful we are, we will not be open to the saving grace of God in Christ. If we continue to focus on other people’s sin, instead of our own, we will remain close-minded to the truth about ourselves. The Spirit, through the Scriptures, leads us to see our sinfulness and acknowledge our need, leading to repentance and faith in Christ. The sinfulness of all people is a doctrine we dare not jump over to get to grace. Where there is sin, there is even more grace.
