Sunday Aug 30, 2020
As soon as Paul says that God’s grace abounds over sin, the question about sin and the Christian arises. Shall we, can we, continue in sin in light of God’s saving grace? This passage addresses sin by showing us how God’s grace results in the death of our old self that was in sin, how we are no longer under condemnation of death for our sin, and how we live free from sin’s dominance over our minds and bodies. God has freed us from sin, so let us live bound to him.

Sunday Aug 23, 2020
By the grace of God a new reality defines our lives which we call union with Christ. Union with Christ is rooted in his death and resurrection, in which God considers us to be included. Union with Christ determines the new way we relate to God in our bodies. The result of union with Christ is holiness (a life resembling Christ), and eternal life (a life of fellowship with God forever). Union with Christ is the great truth all Christians should understand, remember daily, and draw from for strength to live freely for the glory of God.

We have all been disappointed. Why should it be any different when it comes to believing the gospel? If we put our faith in Christ and begin to hope in him, aren’t we at risk of being let down? There are two realities of the gospel that assure us that we will not be disappointed if we hope in God. First, the Holy Spirit is given to us, and he pours God’s love into our hearts. Second, Christ died for us, showing us God’s love for us. To know the love of God in the gift of the Spirit and in the death of Christ gives us hope of the glory of God.
