The work of God to sanctify us sets us apart from the world as we are conformed to the image of Christ, and sets us apart for his mission as we live in the world. God has taken us out of the world and given us to Christ. Christ has sent us back into the world for God. Today we pray for and pursue sanctification in truth.

An encouraging and instructive part of Jesus’ prayer for his church is that God would keep us in his name and from the evil one. Jesus prayed because he cares deeply for his church. We listen to Jesus’ prayer because we live in the world where deception, distraction, and the constant attack of the evil one is real. What Jesus asked the Father on our behalf becomes the pursuit of our lives in the world.

As Jesus begins his prayer for his church in the world, he reveals who we are, what we have been given, and the greatest end for which we exist. Today, we remember our identity as the people of Christ by grace, our call to receive him by faith, and our purpose to bring glory to him in the world.
