In the first chapter of John we are introduced to Jesus Christ. John told us that he is the eternal Word who took on flesh, the God/man who lived among us. John the Baptist told us he is the Lamb of God who takes away our sins, and the one who gives us Holy Spirit to make us alive and new. Now we see that the reason Jesus is introduced to us is that we will follow him. In this passage, we are introduced to the first followers of Jesus, and we learn from their first steps with him.

Jesus is Introduced to The World
Jesus was introduced to the world by John the Baptist. We meet Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, and the one who baptizes us with the Holy Spirit. Forgiveness of sin and a new heart are the gifts that come from Jesus. When we believe in him we are cleansed and made new.

Psalm 100 is an invitation to worship. The psalmist tells us who God is—he is the Lord, the Father, Son, and Spirit, revealed in Jesus Christ and in the Scriptures. The psalmist also tells us what God has done—he has saved us, entered into a covenant with us, and made us a people for himself. In response to who God is and what he has done, the psalmist invites us, and the whole earth, to worship with joy and thanksgiving.
