The city plays a prominent role in the Bible. It can represent human society living apart from God and in rebellion against him. This city will come to an end. But another city gives us a vision of our future with God. This is the city of salvation. It will last forever. Today we will consider what life is like in the city of the LORD and how we live in our city with a vision of that one.

A common misunderstanding about God is that he is Lord over only those who profess him to be, and that they are the only ones accountable to him. But Isaiah, and all the Bible, reveals that God is Lord of all; every person and all nations. He is the creator of all, all are accountable to him, and he will judge all. Regardless of which religion one identifies with, or whether one identifies with none, it is to the LORD God that each person will give account. The only way to rejoice at the judgment is to be united to the One who took our judgment upon himself. By faith in Jesus we will sing of the glory of the Righteous One.

Those who experience the grace of God in Christ sing the song of salvation. It’s a song of thanksgiving, trust, and assurance. This song makes known God’s name and deeds in all the earth. The song of salvation is sung by all the redeemed of the Lord and by the congregation together. Today, let us draw from the waters of salvation and find our joy in Christ.

On earth kings and kingdoms fail, and people are unfaithful. Into this darkness comes the hopeful message of a Messiah who will someday rule in a new way and in a new world. See him in this chapter of Isaiah. Let your heart trust him and take courage. Set your sights on that day and live today by faith.
