Proverbs 2 is an “if, then” chapter. The Lord calls us to pursue wisdom, and if we do he promises to give it. With wisdom comes many life-protecting and life-giving benefits, the chief being the knowledge of God himself. This proverb is meant to entice us to pursue wisdom, and it provides the necessary steps for receiving it. Let’s turn our eyes to Christ who is wise and tune our ears to his word in faith.

This is the fear of the Lord. To fear the Lord is to be aware of his character and ways, to respect and worship him, and to humbly listen to him and submit to his word. The fear of the Lord is the relational context in which receive the grace of wisdom and understanding.
