Wisdom shows us the snare of fearing people and the safety of trusting the Lord. Fearing people is one of our great struggles in life and it causes many problems. The solution to the fear of people is not found in ourselves, but in turning ourselves over to the Lord and to his care. By trusting in the Lord, the fear of man loses its grip on our hearts and becomes less directive of our steps. Today, may we grow in faith and become less fearful of others.

Anger is a powerful emotion. We need to hear and heed the wisdom of God about the presence of anger in our hearts and its expression in our lives. We have the Lord himself to look to for this wisdom. He dealt with his own righteous anger toward sin in the death of his Son, which expressed the depth of his love for us. May his love replace our sinful anger and guide our righteous anger toward redemptive expression.

The condition of the heart before God is the ground from which everything grows. Proverbs is clear that a proud heart produces a crop of destruction and death, while humility brings forth trust and matures into a right relationship with God and wise living in this world. Jason Miller preaches from Proverbs 9. Proverbs 9 presents us all with the choice between wisdom and folly. We must examine the character, offer, and results of each option. A life built upon wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord and results in spiritual life and health, but the pathway of folly ends in death. Christ came to rescue those who have given in to folly’s call. Trusting in Jesus leads us along the narrow path of God’s wisdom.

Proverbs 8 tells us that God has kindly revealed his wisdom to all people in all of creation. The result is that every person has an awareness of God. But God and his wisdom have been rejected, bringing disorder to the world God wisely ordered. God so loved the world that he sent his Son Jesus Christ to atone for sin and to reconcile us to himself. When Christ is received we find life, and we return to the wisdom of God for the way to live.
