The Bible puts an important question to us. “What are the causes of quarrels and conflicts among you?” The Bible also gives us the wisdom to understand the causes and the cures of these conflicts. For Christians, the ultimate conflict between God and man is resolved in Christ. Now we live from a new heart in our relationships with others.

Wisdom shows us the snare of fearing people and the safety of trusting the Lord. Fearing people is one of our great struggles in life and it causes many problems. The solution to the fear of people is not found in ourselves, but in turning ourselves over to the Lord and to his care. By trusting in the Lord, the fear of man loses its grip on our hearts and becomes less directive of our steps. Today, may we grow in faith and become less fearful of others.

Anger is a powerful emotion. We need to hear and heed the wisdom of God about the presence of anger in our hearts and its expression in our lives. We have the Lord himself to look to for this wisdom. He dealt with his own righteous anger toward sin in the death of his Son, which expressed the depth of his love for us. May his love replace our sinful anger and guide our righteous anger toward redemptive expression.

Proverbs is clear that a proud heart produces a crop of destruction and death, while humility brings forth trust and matures into a right relationship with God and wise living in this world. Jason Miller preaches from Proverbs 9. Proverbs 9 presents us all with the choice between wisdom and folly. We must examine the character, offer, and results of each option. A life built upon wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord and results in spiritual life and health, but the pathway of folly ends in death. Christ came to rescue those who have given in to folly’s call. Trusting in Jesus leads us along the narrow path of God’s wisdom.
